Student drivers earn their CDL-A for free and get a guaranteed driving job after only 12 weeks.
Dot Transportation, Inc. (DTI) is excited to announce that we launched our first ever in-house driving school pilot program out of our Dot Foods Maryland location!
Take some time to get to know our first three students and hear what they have to say about the program:
Meet Tori Clark, Dot Driving School Graduate
Dot: Why did you decide to become a truck driver?
Tori: I had been wanting to drive for a long time, but life seemed to always get in the way.
Dot: What was your job before joining the DTI fleet?
Tori: I was a manager at Walmart. But then I had a house fire and it was just too much to deal with all of the stuff they expected after that. Dot gave me an opportunity that I thought I’d have to wait another 10 years to get.
Dot: What was your favorite part about the Dot Driving School program?
Tori: My favorite part about the school was that it didn’t really feel like a school. It was fun and I learned a lot. They made me feel welcome and that was the best part. Getting to drive a truck on the second day was pretty sweet, too!
Meet Ronald Crawford, Dot Driving School Graduate
Dot: Why did you decide to become a truck driver?
Ronald: I was looking for a place to work long-term with great pay and benefits, and an overall family atmosphere. I had heard nothing but great things about Dot Foods and DTI from other drivers. I enjoy being on the open road and thought that driving and making deliveries would be something I would enjoy doing—so I took a chance and applied. Things worked out the way they were meant to be. I’m single and my kids are older so my time away from home isn’t an issue. I’d been thinking about getting my CDL for some time and was looking to go back to school for it when I heard from another driver that Dot was thinking about doing the school so he called me and told me to apply.
Dot: What was your job before joining the DTI fleet?
Ronald: Before DTI I drove box trucks delivering outdoor furniture. Before that, I did warehouse production work.
Dot: What was your favorite part about the Dot Driving School program?
Ronald: I really liked the way they made sure I understood what I was doing, gave me confidence, and made sure I was comfortable before making me do anything on my own. There was a lot of information to learn, but they never moved too fast and made sure I understood what they were doing and why they were doing it before moving on to the next stage. They did a great job at teaching me the Dot way and have set me up to have a long, successful career with DTI.
Meet Carl Beltz, Current Dot Driving School Trainee
Dot: Why did you decide to become a truck driver?
Carl: I decided to become a truck driver to have an opportunity for a better future with a company that may support my ambitions for my life.
Dot: What was your job before joining the DTI fleet?
Carl: Before Dot, I worked as a garbage man for five years driving the trucks and throwing trash.
Dot: What was your favorite part about the Dot Driving School program?
Carl: I’d say my favorite part about the schooling program was just learning how to operate a vehicle I never thought I would before.
